The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
by C. S. Lewis. Year Published: 1950This novel is set in Narnia, a land of talking animals and mythical creatures, where one White Witch has ruled for 100 years of deep winter. Four English children are relocated to a large, old country house following a wartime evacuation. The youngest child discovers the land of Narnia through the magic of a wardrobe in a spare room. All four children then visit, and seem fit to fulfill an old prophecy and are soon adventuring both to save Narnia and their lives.
Bridge to Terabithia
by Katherine Paterson Year Published: 1977The novel tells the story of fifth grader Jesse Aarons, who becomes friends with his new neighbor Leslie Burke after he loses a footrace to her at school. She is a smart, talented, outgoing tomboy from a wealthy family, and Jess thinks highly of her. He is an artistic boy from a poorer family who, in the beginning, is fearful, angry, and depressed. After meeting Leslie, his life is transformed. He becomes courageous and learns to let go of his frustration. When at the end something tragic happens to Leslie, Jess learns to overcome it.
The Secret Garden

Mary Lennox, a sickly and contrary little girl, is orphaned to dim prospects in a gloomy English manor - her only friend is a bed-ridden boy named Colin whose prospects may be dimmer than hers. But when Mary finds the key to a Secret Garden, the magical powers of transformation fall within her reach.
Charlotte's Web
by E. B. White Year Published: 1952 Juvenile FictonThe book begins when John Arable's sow gives birth to a litter of piglets, and Mr. Arable discovers one of them is a runt and decides to kill it. However, his eight year old daughter Fern begs him to let it live. Therefore her father gives it to Fern as a pet, and she names the piglet Wilbur. Wilbur is hyperactive and always exploring new things. He lives with Fern for a few weeks and then is sold to her uncle, Homer Zuckerman. Although Fern visits him at the Zuckermans' farm as often as she can, her visits decrease as she grows older, and Wilbur gets lonelier day after day. Eventually, a warm and soothing voice tells him that she is going to be his friend. The next day, he wakes up and meets his new friend: Charlotte, the grey spider.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
by Mark Twain Year Published: 1885Commonly named among the Great American Novels, the work is among the first in major American literature to be written throughout in vernacular English, characterized by local color regionalism. It is told in the first person by Huckleberry "Huck" Finn, a friend of Tom Sawyer and narrator of two other Twain novels (Tom Sawyer Abroad and Tom Sawyer, Detective). It is a direct sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
